Community Engagement Graduate Assistant- STEAM and Experiential Learning

Job Summary:

This Graduate Assistant supports the Director of Engaged Scholarship in the Office of Community Engagement & Inclusion (CEI) and works in support of the CEI office to coordinate and administer the STEAM in the City and other experiential learning programs . The Graduate Assistant will join a team of professional staff and students to support and further the mission of the Office of Community Engagement and Inclusion (CEI). CEI initiatives cultivate partnerships that strengthen communities and develop actively engaged civic society.

Job Description:

The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for days to day coordination of the Office of Community Engagement and Inclusion's STEAM in the City program. The GA will be responsible for the following:

  • Coordinate all STEAM in the City engagements on and off campus in local schools including but not limited to off-campus classroom engagements with SEEDs and teacher fellows, on campus professional development workshops and public events, seeing these projects through from beginning to completion

  • Act as a main point of contact for STEAM in the City, serving as liaison to STEAM partners for collaborative activities, program development, logistics, questions and issues;

  • Support the Director in managing communications with external stakeholders and scheduling meetings- including but not limited to draft and disseminate communications for website and STEAM newsletter

  • Follow policies and procedures within CEI to increase coordination and collaboration among participating agencies and organizations;

  • Manage expenses, specifically teacher fellow requests, and programmatic STEAM budget;

  • May act in a supervisory role and review work of support staff, and casual employees.

  • Engage with faculty, staff and students on SITC-related matters via consultations, workshops and facilitated discussions

  • Support CEI logistical needs

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Sciences, Education, Psychology or other related discipline is required and a minimum of 3 years of professional experience

  • Master's Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Sciences, Education, Psychology or other related disciplines are strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of NYC DOE Pre-K-12 teaching and learning environment

  • Experience with project coordination or management

  • Strong organizational and communication skills. Experience working on issues of STEAM education and community engagement

  • Experience in preparing lesson plans, outlines, curriculum or guides in preparation to teach or facilitate activities

  • A demonstrated commitment to social justice, civic engagement and/or STEM education

  • Experience working with people of diverse educational, professional, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds

  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and team-building skills

  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative and excel in an independent, self-directed manner

  • Must be enrolled in graduate program to be eligible to apply

Compensation: $25/hr for students in Master's level programs and $30/hr for doctoral students

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
