The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Consultant (DEIB) Consultant will partner closely with the Director of DEIB in FAS HR to administer and manage FAS HR DEIB operations, programming, assessments, and intakes as well as partner with the Director of DEIB to meet existing and new needs and expectations.

The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Consultant is responsible for providing comprehensive and strategic guidance to managers and staff seeking advice and assistance related to DEIB matters. This includes advising on, interpreting, and participating in the implementation of DEIB polices and processes and collaborating with managers and staff as requested. This position will also make recommendations to address issues and needs raised by managers and staff. This position will interact with and support all staff, managers and, to a limited degree, faculty. The scope is broad since it serves constituents FAS-wide. This role manages highly sensitive information and must be able to work with and advise individuals at varying levels of the FAS.

The FAS HR DEIB Consultant will:

  1. Serve as subject matter expert and project lead to FAS staff and managers seeking assistance with DEIB efforts. Collaborate with departments to identify, troubleshoot, and plan strategies for advancing DEIB efforts in the unit. Analyze requests using independent judgement to determine next steps. Advise managers and staff on policies, best practices, protocols, and standards. Engage in various forms of research to resolve problems. Participate in DEIB project planning to address staff and management needs. Independently make recommendations to improve existing policies and practices in the unit.
  2. In partnership with the Director of DEIB identify consultants and others to serve as speakers, facilitators, and presenters at various DEIB focused gatherings; lead or co-lead DEIB focused gatherings as needed.
  3. Independently redesign FAS HR Career Plus program. Work cross-functionally to assess constituent needs and to develop program modules and pilot program. Independently design and deliver various DEIB workshops and trainings. Identify appropriate program measures and participate in the evaluation of effectiveness of diversity offerings. Recommend options to improve existing programs.
  4. Represent FAS HR at local, FAS and university-wide meetings and gatherings as requested by the Director of DEIB. In the absence of the Director, provide continuation of services as directed by the Director.
  5. Participate in and contribute to FAS HR DEIB meetings; lead meetings as needed.
  6. Identify and support opportunities to leverage university-wide resources such as Employee Resource Groups and the Administrative Fellows Program.
  7. Engage in professional development.
  8. Manage other projects as required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years' relevant HR experience
  • Project and/or program management experience

  • Intermediate knowledge of the EDIB field and related trends and matters
  • Intermediate skills in cultural competency
  • Problem solving and research skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas in a way that can be understood by various audiences
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across disciplines and constituencies in a complex organization

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in an office setting (sitting, standing, occasional walking to other offices on campuses)

Working Conditions

  • This position will be based in Cambridge, MA and has a hybrid work schedule. There is an expectation of 1-2 days per week on campus and flexibility for additional days on campus, if needed.

  • 35 hrs/week - M-F
