Job Description

We are seeking a motivated, innovative individual that enjoys working in a team environment to transition new technologies from concept to fruition. Desirable candidates will have an engineering or technical degree in a relevant field with demonstrated experience in systems design, analog and digital electronics design, software engineering, and programming. Specific experience with data acquisition systems, wireless technologies, robotics integration, signal processing, machine learning, mechanical design, or product development is advantageous.

The position will require active involvement in SIA’s Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) & Instrumentation organization with specific responsibilities for developing inspection and monitoring technologies that support our field inspection teams and clients. Qualified individuals will have demonstrated strong technical leadership, creativity, administrative and technical skills, and the use of sound engineering judgment in anticipating and solving challenging problems. Successful candidates will also have superior written and oral communication skills.
 
General knowledge and understanding of NDE techniques and technologies is advantageous, though not required. This might include ultrasonic testing, electromagnetic testing, sensor technology, phased array concepts, etc. Familiarity or experience with developing technologies for industrial applications, such as applications in power generation facilities, will be beneficial.

The position will also require active involvement with SIA’s field services and engineering teams and may include field application and testing. Applicants must be willing to travel for client visits, meetings and conferences, and on-site inspections/implementations (~15%).

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Supports internal instrumentation and monitoring technology and software development efforts.
  • Learns and maintains an in-depth understanding of conventional and state-of-the-art NDE and monitoring technologies.
  • Collaborates with other engineers and NDE professionals within SIA develop and improve inspection tools and processes.
  • Serves as both an internal and external consultant regarding instrumentation and monitoring solutions.
  • Trains others, internally and externally, on the use and implementation of instrumentation and monitoring solutions.
  • Trains field-service team, providing field support as needed, for the implementation of instrumentation and monitoring solutions.
  • Represents SIA before clients in a manner consistent with corporate core values.
  • Demonstrates superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrates project management skills.
  • Organizes, executes, and coordinates project assignments.
  • Ensures the quality of services and products.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Travel (~15%)
Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • BS in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent with 5+ years of industry experience.
  • Advanced degrees are welcome.
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
  • 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of experience in the development and application of electronic technologies. Emphasis on inspection and monitoring applications preferred.
  • Experience with hardware/software development and interfacing.
  • Programming and database experience, with preference for experience in C/C#, SQL/MySQL, Python, and/or LabVIEW.
  • PCB design and layout using Altium, Autodesk Eagle, or comparable software.
  • Computer-aided design using SolidWorks, ProEngineer, or similar software.
  • General knowledge of fabrication concepts, welding, materials and processes.
  • Ability to create and read basic mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and/or prepare technical specifications and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and detail oriented.
  • Professional in appearance in demeanor.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize different projects.
  • Open to flexible and/or extended work hours and job responsibilities.
