This is a fantastic chance to lead in developing advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS) solutions for Pierce County. You'll manage GIS architecture, SaaS software, field data collection apps, and supervise a team that supports and enhances various GIS systems. Your work will support critical areas such as Enterprise Asset Management, Assessor-Treasurer, Parks & Recreation, Public Works (including Planning, Engineering, Surface Water Management, Sewer, Road Maintenance, and Storm Drainage), and many other departments in charge of health, fire, and emergency management, making a tangible and visible impact in Pierce County and the surrounding region.
You'll start by understanding the current GIS architecture and Esri technologies, working with customers and staff, and overseeing key operations of the County’s Enterprise GIS. You’ll manage project execution, daily operations, and the professional development of your team.

How to be Successful in the Role:
We need someone who can quickly master the current GIS web services, application architecture, and system integrations, with expertise in ESRI GIS products like ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS API for Python. In addition to technical understanding, being proactive, anticipating needs, and engaging actively as a supervisor are crucial. Collaborative and team-focused work methods will lead to success.
Your Future in this Role:
You will report directly to the IT Manager of Spatial Services and supervise a team of 4 which includes GIS developers and administrators. You'll play a key role in providing essential GIS services and applications. As one of three supervisors in the Spatial Services Unit, you’ll help shape future directions and contribute to the IT leadership team.
You’ll lead the development of Esri-based technology solutions, implement security measures, plan and implement solutions, understand customer needs, and provide senior-level guidance and mentoring to your team and other GIS staff.
Core Daily Responsibilities:
-Perform expert-level professional, lead functions in GIS data construction, programming, GIS analysis, system implementation and project management for enterprise-wide or complex projects.
-Provide leadership for GIS operations, research and design of system architecture strategies, programming, database design and implementation services.
-Use object-oriented programming languages, web services, client and server application development processes and internet technologies to construct new GIS software systems.
-Serve as the subject matter expert for GIS enterprise systems, platforms, system architectures, system integration, and system implementation including cloud and on-premise GIS platforms.
-Provide application management including needs assessment, GUI design, system architecture, software development, implementation processes, integration testing, performance tuning, documentation, and system deployment.
-Lead complex, multi-tier enterprise GIS system development for county business, scientific, mission critical or engineering applications across multiple platforms.
-Serve as supervisor including plan, organize and assign work; conduct meetings; monitor schedules and budgets; perform research; develop work products, recommendations, and action plans.
-This position may also act as the Spatial Services Manager when the Manager is unavailable.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

-Bachelors Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Geography or related field.
-Eight or more years of information technology/GIS experience required.
-Additional education or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
-Extensive experience as an Enterprise GIS architect.
-Expertise in Standalone ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Enterprise Portal.
-Programming experience in Python 3.x, Esri ArcPy, ArcGIS API for Python.
-Proven experience leading or supervising a GIS or IT team. Solid understanding of effective supervision principles and practices.

Compensation is from $110,184.10 to $161,147.34 annually.
