Description The City of Redding Finance Department is seeking to fill one full-time Senior Accountant positions.
The Senior Accountant position has a broad range of duties in various aspects of the accounting life cycle and provides direct supervision and support to the staff responsible for a variety of duties including but not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipting, cash management, credit cards, capital assets, audits, grants, financial reports and payroll. The Senior Accountant provides analysis and recommendations related to policies, municipal code, internal controls, business process and procedures as applicable for each of the aforementioned elements.
Under administrative direction, provides supervision and training to a staff of professional and paraprofessional accountants, and is responsible for the coordination of the annual audit and preparation of the C.A.F.R.; also functions as the grant coordinator.
Supervisory responsibilities distinguish this classification from the Accountant I and II classifications.
We are looking for someone to - Perform a variety of personnel activities, including supervision, performance evaluation, training, selection, dismissal and disciplinary action as may be assigned.
- Performs fiscal year-end review and analysis of accounting records to determine necessary adjustments; compile appropriate audit work papers.
- Analyzes monthly accounting procedures to improve process.
- Analyzes policies and procedures for recordation.
- Reviews financial statements and other reports; coordinates audits and grants.
- Serves as grant coordinator for the City, requisitions grant funds and prepares certain grantor reports; monitors federal and state regulations and guidelines on grants; and coordinates annual single audit.
- Functions as the lead Accountant.
- Organizes and directs the City's comprehensive annual financial report. Coordinates independent audit, and acts as audit liaison.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the job classification.

- Define conclusions and develop recommendations
- Prepare comprehensive and technically correct accounting reports and financial statements
- Operate a computer terminal for various financial applications
Education & Experience:
- Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying
- Typical education would include a Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college, university, or equivalent.
- Typical experience would include three years of professional accounting experience, one year of which shall have been in a lead capacity.

An average of thirteen and a half per year. Fire Association covered employees receive a payment in lieu of holidays. Holiday compensation for Redding Peace Officers Association and Redding Police Managers Association employees has been converted to base pay.
Vacation: Two weeks per year up to the fourth year of service, three weeks up to nine years of service, three and a half weeks up to fourteen years of service, four weeks up to nineteen years of service, four and a half weeks up to twenty-four years of service, five weeks after twenty-four years of service. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU. Part-time and temporary employees may be eligible for some vacation/paid time off benefits.
Sick Leave: Twelve working days of sick leave are accrued each year. Unused sick leave may be credited toward retirement. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU.
Health Insurance: Excellent medical, dental, vision, and life for employee and dependent, and long-term disability for employees.
Retirement: Full-time employees are covered by CalPERS (formula is dependent on hire date and member status in CalPERS) and are not covered under the Social Security System
. Administrative Leave:
Management positions are eligible to receive 40 hours of administrative leave per calendar year as authorized by the department director; additional leave up to 40 hours may be granted by the City Manager.
Deferred Compensation Plans: Available for interested employees.
Union Dues: Some job classifications are represented by collective bargaining units, the employees of which may choose to join and pay union dues.
Part-Time Retirement Benefit Program: Part-time, seasonal, and full-time temporary employees either participate in the Social Security System or the PARS Alternate Retirement System depending upon bargaining unit assignment.
