Career Path Services is looking for a Staff Accountant to join our team, to support our staff becoming an ambassadors of hope. Successful Staff Accountants are dedicated to delivering amazing customer service in support of our organization. The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing financial reports to track the organizations assets, liabilities, profit and loss, and other related financial activities. The position will perform a variety of moderately complex accounting functions relating to the maintenance of the general ledger and preparation of financial reports. On any given day, you'll work to build a stronger organization by providing critical support to help our staff eliminate barriers and connect job seekers to employment, help employers find the talent they need for their businesses to grow and thrive.

This Position is full time, regular and will be hybrid (remote and in-person at our Spokane office).

ABOUT THE JOB
The Staff Accountant is responsible for execution of day-to-day accounting functions. This Staff Accountant role will be performed primarily remotely. Training will be in an hybrid format (partly in office and part virtual).
The major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.
  • Maintains the general ledger for assigned contracts and accounts; reviews for accuracy and integrity.
  • Prepares periodic internal revenue and expense vs budget reports and shares with operations team.
  • May reconcile bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts; reviews, reconciles and approves individual A/P, VISA, A/R and other related transactions for processing; resolves fiscal discrepancies with staff.
  • Reviews contracts; provides interpretation of and compliance with funding agency and institutional regulations and policies to staff and interested parties.
  • May process staff payroll including maintaining and reconciling payroll-related accounts, calculate appropriate deductions for fringe benefits and ensure vendor payments are made; including required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and monitors program budgets with program leadership.
  • Collaborates with assigned program leadership to analyze and review ongoing financial results.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit and ongoing monitoring.
  • May coordinate with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
  • Works well under pressure, meets multiple and conflicting deadlines.
  • Demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues, supervisors, and customers at all times.
  • Actively engages in continuous quality improvement.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE/POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field, or related accounting experience in lieu of degree requirement.
  • Technical expertise, including experience with computer-based accounting software, spreadsheet software.
  • Must be able to work in a culturally diverse and fast-paced environment and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and cultural competency.
Preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in non-profit government accounting, finance or related field
  • Certification in accounting related field.

Salary: Salary offer range for new hires: $53,000-58,000 annually (full range for lifetime of role $53,000 - $74,000)
